Dr Amala Pathirana graduated from the University of Colombo in 1998. She completed her Residency at the Fremantle Hospital in Western Australia in 2001, followed by work at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and the Geelong Hospital, covering primarily Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT and Emergency Medicine.

Amala commenced her General Practice pathway in Colac in 2005 receiving her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General practitioners in 2006. She joined the team at Surfcoast Medical Centre in February 2006.
